There is an important differentiation between two closely related initiatives. They are the marketing strategies vs market placement strategies, and it’s important for owners to deal with them differently. Marketing strategies focus on the approaches of how the company messages and interacts with the customer markets to create sales. A market strategy deals with how the company positions itself in the market to build its placement and position with competitors. Examples…Macy’s & Neiman Marcus vs JC Penny. Ford vs Mercedes, and so on. Think about it. ©Viscon Services
Management & Leadership Tip 4/7/2026
AI is creating two different camps. (1) Those who are excited about it and (2) those who are greatly afraid of it. The fear camp worries about losing their jobs. Telling them not to worry about it is like a dentist telling a patient not to worry about the root canal they are going to get. It’s a waste of time. For those that were around, the Internet was the same twenty-five or thirty years ago. Show (just don’t tell) your people to look at AI as their own personal assistant, one that can take all those boring tasks away so that then their own unique experiences and talents can be better applied. AI can make them look even more valuable. Think about it. ©Viscon Services
Recruiting and Hiring Tip 4/8/2026
A simple but often overlooked part of interviewing is what is not said. Candidates understandably and predictably say just what they think the interviewer wants to hear. The solution starts with the resumes. Resumes only tell selective information. To learn more about candidates, be a better interviewer and ask about things ‘between the lines of a resume. Why did they make certain decisions? What job did they like the most and why? And so on. Think about it. ©Viscon Services
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Tip 4/9/2026
In the last ten years, the CRM database programs have flooded the market. There are so many now that it all creates confusion for the business owners trying to select one. The best rule to follow is to plan and build your needs of what you want the database to do before you commit to one. Too often, programs are selected and integrated without any real thinking of informational needs of everyone on the team. That will often create a shortfall of results. Think about it. ©Viscon Services
Sales & Selling Tip 3/6/2026
Many salespeople mistakenly undervalue the products they are selling. That’s because they know there is a markup on the base price, or they are afraid of asking for a higher price. Those are the two most common ones. They should internalize that the buyer is actually getting a great deal even at the high price. The costs of research, manufacturing, packaging, marketing, shipping, and service teams at numerous points of the chain are enormous. It’s really a great price. Think about it. ©Viscon Services
